We subscribe to Yankee Magazine. It’s pretty much one of those top ten things you need to do while living in New England. While browsing the latest issue to grace my coffee table, I came across their Apple & Mustard Grilled Cheese Sandwich using Wholegrain Mustard - it’s on page 73 for those of you with a copy – and knew that I wasn’t the only genius to put mustard on grilled cheese. We sell a ton of mustard by letting our customers know to put it on their next grilled cheese and they’ll be hooked. Without further a due, the recipe (adapted from Yankee Magazine):
| Yankee Magazine Apple & Mustard Grilled Cheese Sandwich |
Recipe type: Lunch

Prep time: 5 mins
Cook time: 7 mins
Total time: 12 mins
Serves: 1
Probably one of the greatest combinations ever.
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 teaspoons salted butter, at room temperature
- 4 slices sourdough bread
- 2 teaspoons Green Mountain Mustard – Wholegrain Mustard
- 1/3 apple – peeled, cored, and sliced
- 4 oz sharp cheddar (they also mention havarti, aged gouda, or Gruyere)
Instructions
- Take one skillet and set over medium heat, letting it get hot
- Butter one side of each bread slice and lay butter-side down on your cutting board
- Spread mustard on both slices and lay apple slices on top of mustard
- Layer with cheese and top with the second bread slice
- Cook until browned – 3-4 minutes – and flip to cook the other side.
Notes
Yankee Magazine used two skillets – sort of like a panini press – which we think dirties too many dishes. We stuck with one.
