A lot of people want to know where Green Mountain Mustard calls home. We don’t exactly say it proudly in our displays and marketing materials, but we run the company out of our house in Richmond, VT. It’s a town of just over 4,000 people, a lot of young families, and enough views of fields and mountains to make a tourist jealous.
We love living and working in Richmond – companies help each other out, and retailers are always willing to carry your product and give you a shot. One of our very first retailers, the Richmond Market and Beverage is now one of our best. It’s this hometown following that keeps us going. People in Richmond, Huntington, and Bolton really love our mustard. It’s great to see this support!
Back in our farmer’s market days, we used to make the mustard 12 jars at a time on our stove-top at home and can it, just like you would jams and jellies. Since then, we have moved production into a kitchen in Winooski, VT where we rent kitchen space. It’s a shared commercial kitchen for producers who can no longer meet demand for their product by making it at home. We have a great partnership with Randi Kay, who runs the kitchen, and we’re producing at least once a month – usually 120 jars at a time!
