Answering the Infamous Winter Market Question
Many of you have asked us if we’re going to the Burlington Winter Market this year. Unfortunately, we’re going to pass. The first three months of winter market, well we’re not exactly available. On the weekends, we do area craft fairs and holiday markets. Holiday season is absolute madness for us. With that being said, we like to take the first couple months of each year off. We operate at about 40% capacity. All three of us work full-time (plus, my birthday is in February), so chances are we’ll be on vacation before the summer heats up. You can still get our delicious...

When I leave Dad at home by himself, he tends to create wildly unique recipes. A couple of weeks ago was no exception. Mom and I were down in Bennington for the Vermont Garlic Festival. It was Dad’s friend Don’s birthday party. Dad decided to get creative and make deviled eggs as an appetizer. The following recipe took 15 minutes to prep, and well, they were gone in that same amount of time. Here’s the recipe – no mayo required since our mustard is that rich and creamy. Deviled Eggs with Jalapeno and Barn Burner Mustard 12 hard-cooked eggs 1/3 cup Green Mountain...

Tourists flock to Vermont throughout the summer season. One of their destinations is the Burlington Farmer’s Market. 93 vendors setup every Saturday and sell their art, crafts, produce, and prepared food. It’s truly an awesome market. Green Mountain Mustard is there every weekend talking with our loyal fans and meeting all kinds of tourists. Several weeks ago, a tourist up from North Carolina, suggested we make Sweet Potato Mustard. Intrigued, Dad and I packed up from the market, went to store, bought sweet potatoes and made a test batch. We brought it to the market the following...

I just got back from my brother’s wedding. The majority of our family knows we run this little tiny mustard company, but not everyone has gotten the chance to try it (while other family members placed their case orders before the wedding). Ryan and his fiancee Samantha thought putting mustard shots in their hotel gift bags with a small box of pretzels would be a great thing for guests to snack on….and it was. I had people coming up to me left and right, letting me know how good the mustard was and that they’d already devoured their jar – mainly the guests who were...
Read MoreFriday FAQ: How do you Make Mustard?
Occasionally, people ask me if it’s hard to make mustard. My standard response has always been: “If you can read you can make mustard”. However, our family recipes involve almost four years of tweaking. Now it’s perfect. If you want to tweak your recipe for four years, then by all means go for it! I’m always willing to help out fellow gourmet mustard makers. One thing to keep in mind is that our mustard is not typical mustard. We use local eggs, butter, and Vermont maple syrup to give it the rich and creamy profile you all have come to love. What it all comes...

A lot of people want to know where Green Mountain Mustard calls home. We don’t exactly say it proudly in our displays and marketing materials, but we run the company out of our house in Richmond, VT. It’s a town of just over 4,000 people, a lot of young families, and enough views of fields and mountains to make a tourist jealous. We love living and working in Richmond – companies help each other out, and retailers are always willing to carry your product and give you a shot. One of our very first retailers, the Richmond Market and Beverage is now one of our best. It’s...
